The Selden Society: To encourage the study and advance the knowledge of the History of English Law. Sir John Baker was Downing Professor of the Laws of England, Cambridge from 1998 to 2011. 'John Caryll (d. 1523), sometime bencher of the Inner Temple, prothonotary of the Common Pleas, and subsequently king's serjeant at law. About half of Caryll's reports were printed anonymously in 1602, under the editorship of John Croke, bencher of the Inner Temple, as Relationes quorundam casuum selectorum ex libris Roberti Keilwey. The volume was known to the profession between the seventeenth century and 1957 as 'Keilwey', though its true identity was revealed in the latter years by Professor Simpson ... The printed text was never translated into English ... '.
