The examples printed in this volume date from the reign of King Henry III (1216-1272), one of the most active of patrons of architecture in English history, and are among the earliest records of their kind in western Europe. The buildings in question are a major Gothic church (Westminster Abbey), an important castle ( Dover), and the great hall of Winchester Castle.'
