Large post 8vo., pp [iv], vii, [i] note, 588 (a little foxed at beginning and end). Half bound in holly green morocco, gilt bands and title, papered sides (a little rubbed). Upper inner hinge neatly repaired with archival japanese tissue. A sound copy. A presentation copy from William Aldis Wright and with his signed inscription on front free endpaper. Wright was educated at Beccles where his father was a Baptist minister. After attending the grammar school he went up to Trinity College, Cambridge where he later became librarian and bursar. He was an editor of the Journal of Philology, editor of the Clarendon Press edition of Shakespeare as well a editing Milton's poems. He was a personal friend and literary executor of Edward FitzGerald, the renowned translator of The Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam), whose letters he edited as well as a number of other works including publications of the Early English Text Society.
